Simply Neat Volunteer

Get Involved

It's easy and extremely rewarding to improve the quality of life for others! Whether you want to do some hands-on volunteering locally, travel internationally or just show your support financially, here are some of my favorite organizations that can help you get started.

Please visit the Simply Neat Volunteer - Our Involvement page to see some of the ways that Simply Neat is involved.

Be The Match

The Be The Match organization helps find bone marrow donors for patients in need of a transplant due to blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, sickle cell and other life-threatening diseases. At any one time, roughly 10,000 patients need a marrow transplant, but only half receive one.

You can show your support by joining the Registry, making a donation and spreading the word. Be The Match makes joining the Registry extremely easy. You simply go online to request the kit, swab your mouth with the swabs sent with the kit, then mail the kit back in the postage-paid envelope. The Registry will process your samples and get your information entered into the database so doctors all over the world can see if you could be a match for their patient.

Global Volunteers

Global Volunteers, established in 1984, works in special consultative status with the United Nations and in partnership with U.N. agencies, UNICEF and the World Food Programme to engage short-term volunteers on long-term projects to create, nurture and sustain the wellbeing of the world's children - so they can realize the full promise of their human potential.

Under the direction of host community leaders, Global Volunteers teams help deliver essential services in the areas of hunger, health and intellectual development – contributing to projects such as nutrition education and community gardens; math, science and conversational English lessons; infant and toddler care and stimulation; hygiene and HIV/AIDS education; dengue fever prevention and de-worming; and construction of schools, health clinics, and clean water systems.

Short-term volunteer teams are mobilized throughout the year for one- to six-week service programs in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America and the South Pacific. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome, and pay a tax-deductible service program fee covering food, lodging, community transportation, emergency medical evacuation and supplemental medical insurance, project materials, the costs of a trained team leader, orientation materials and administrative fees.

H2O for Life

This is a fabulous way to get your kids inspired!

H2O for Life began in 2007 as an individual school project at Highview Middle School in New Brighton, Minnesota. The initial project goal was to raise $10,000 for a water project in the Kwa Kasolo area in Kenya, Africa, to provide water and sanitation to more than 2,000 residents. The 900 Highview Middle School students embraced the project and raised $13,000, far exceeding initial expectations and successfully funding the WASH (WAter Sanitation and Hygiene) project for the Kwa Kasolo community members.

Because of their great success, the 8th grade student committee leaders wanted to continue working with their partner community into their freshman year of high school, so with the help of teacher volunteers, they adopted and funded the partner community’s Kathungu School project. The commitment and enthusiasm of these young students inspired H20 for Life’s connection program. I'm proud to say that my son was one of those 8th grade students!

Visit their website for more information on how your child's school can get involved.
